The window to prevent catastrophic climate tipping points is closing rapidly, and the UK must act as a global leader rather than a passive bystander.
The Global Picture: Severe Impacts at Home and Abroad
The reality of climate breakdown is undeniable, devastating, and immensely costly:
- Severe Drought and Heat at Home: Building on the Met Office’s record of the hottest UK summer since 1884, the severe heat and dry conditions of summer 2026 have pushed the UK’s water supply to the brink. With half the country under strict water use restrictions, reservoir levels plummeting, and agricultural yields threatened, the crisis is hitting UK households and businesses directly. Climate change is very much real and here to stay.
- Catastrophic Flooding in Nepal: In Nepal and across the Himalayas, climate-driven glacial retreat, thawing permafrost, and unpredictable monsoon patterns recently triggered flash flooding. Entire towns were swept away, vital energy infrastructure was destroyed, and thousands of families were left homeless.

- Locally-Led Execution: Ending top-down international mandates by funding community-led, context-specific solutions that empower local leaders and frontline responders.
- Power of Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange: Establishing strong bilateral agreements for green technology transfers, joint scientific research, and practical adaptation solutions.
Our Call to Action: Write to Your MP
The new UK Government has a vital opportunity to rebuild Britain’s credibility as a global climate leader. Domestically, climate inaction costs billions in emergency infrastructure repairs and lost productivity; internationally, it costs lives. Words on the world stage mean nothing without decisive policy action and real international solidarity.

- Restore International Aid to 0.7% of GNI: Reorganise UK foreign policy by restoring the international aid budget to 0.7% immediately. Cutting aid weakens frontline nations battling climate disasters they did not create and undermines global security.
- Take bold leadership at COP31, such as by financing climate-related loss and damage of the world’s poorest countries
- Fund Locally-Led Solutions Directly: Require UK climate finance and international development funds to bypass bloated bureaucracies, ensuring money reaches local communities, Indigenous leaders, and grassroots groups on the ground.
- Invest in Domestic & Global Resiliency: Lead by example by upgrading domestic water and energy infrastructure while driving global partnerships that share green technology and climate adaptation expertise.
